Introduction
The District and the Personnel Commission have initiated an examination of the classification program covering our classified employees. These classification and salary analyses will be conducted in phases over a three-year period.
Classifications that will be studied in this second phase are listed on the enclosure to this communication. If you occupy one of these Phase 3 classes, you will receive notice for attendance at an orientation meeting to be held in September. At this orientation meeting, you will receive a thorough briefing on the study process and its timing, and you will be able to ask any questions you may have regarding the study.
The consulting firm
Reward Strategy Group (RSG) has been
retained to
assist us with the study and to develop classification/compensation findings and recommendations.
RSG has earned an excellent reputation over the past 20 years for conducting thoughtful, accurate
and unbiased studies for their clients. You will meet and hear from RSG’s principals during
the upcoming orientation meetings.
The District has also formed a Study Advisory Panel that will meet
with the consultants periodically during the project. This panel has the following members:
- Alta Costa - AFT President
- Ella Major - for perspective on AFT classes
- Janice Berry - for perspective on confidential classes
- Steve Wheeler - for perspective on manager/supervisor classes
- Paul Creason - for perspective on administrator classes
- Gary Scott - for academic deans’ perspectives
- Gail Schwandner - for the administration’s perspective
We are pleased these individuals have agreed to serve as a sounding
board for the consultants through-out the study.
Finally, we urge every classified employee to participate diligently
in the classification study. It is only with thoughtful, accurate input from staff that our
consultants can conduct the classification and compensation analyses that will lead to equitable
and accurate results.
